CONVERSA: Pali & Jejo Cornelsen

Brazilian-American designer Pali Xisto Cornelsen pays tribute to his father, noted artist and polymath Jejo Cornelsen, with a new series of bespoke furnishings inspired by his intuitive and polymathic practice. The collection comprises tables, stools, and lamps—as well as a floating shelf, bed frame, mirror, and room divider—crafted out of tree trunks normally turned into firewood. The pieces were developed from organic preliminary wood sculptures Jejo created while spending time in rural Connecticut in 2018. They stem from the primarily city-based talent’s continued exploration of nature. They are carefully coated in paints reflective of the vibrantly toned, natural-derived clay pigments that have garnered him renown since the 1990s. The designs result from the close collaboration of father and son; revealing similarities in multidisciplinary creative impulse that drive their respective practices. The collection demonstrates Pali's deftly refined and referential distillation of minimalism and Jejo’s mastery of color in equal measure.

Conversa: Pali & Jejo Cornelsen is the inaugural exhibition marking the launch of a six-month collaboration between Verso and So-Too, a new design-driven community space in West Hollywood.
